When you walk into an older bathroom, it’s easy to spot the years of wear and tear — warped ceilings, yellowed fixtures, and outdated tile that just doesn’t stand the test of time. That’s exactly what our Tacoma client was facing before Shield Plumbing & Remodel came in to help them reimagine their space.
This bathroom had good bones but needed a total transformation — from the plumbing beneath the floor to the finishes on the walls. Our team handled the remodel from start to finish, making sure every step improved both functionality and aesthetics.

Before our team got started, the space showed all the classic signs of age:
The overall feeling was dark and cramped — and the layout just didn’t fit the homeowner’s modern needs.
The homeowner wanted a bathroom that felt fresh, clean, and modern but still simple and timeless. Functionality was just as important as looks — they wanted something easy to maintain, with materials that could handle Tacoma’s damp climate and daily family use.
Shield’s approach was to completely rework the space — modern plumbing, new materials, and a layout that made sense for how the bathroom was actually used.

This remodel touched every part of the room.
1. Complete Demo and Plumbing Upgrades
We started by removing the old bathtub, fixtures, and flooring, exposing the underlying plumbing and structure. The plumbing system was updated to ensure long-term reliability — an essential part of any remodel that homeowners don’t always see, but feel the benefits of for years.
2. New Walk-In Shower Installation
Instead of reinstalling another bathtub, we built a modern, full-height walk-in shower. The walls were retiled with a marble-inspired porcelain tile that runs all the way to the ceiling — instantly opening up the room and adding a luxurious, high-end touch.
The shower floor was finished with a pebble mosaic tile, which adds texture and traction while tying in natural tones. A sleek glass door with brushed nickel trim completed the look, allowing light to pass through freely and making the bathroom feel larger.
3. Flooring Replacement
We installed durable, waterproof vinyl plank flooring in a neutral wood tone — giving the space warmth and durability. This flooring is built to handle moisture and is easy to clean, perfect for busy Tacoma households.
4. Modern Vanity and Fixtures
The new vanity was chosen to maximize both function and visual appeal. Compact yet stylish, it features clean white cabinetry with storage below, paired with a brushed nickel faucet to match the rest of the fixtures.
Overhead, a new three-light fixture brightens the room, while a framed mirror completes the space with a polished touch.
5. Finishing Touches
Fresh paint, clean lines, and coordinated finishes tied everything together. Every element — from the towel bar placement to the trim details — was done with precision to give the space a professional, seamless look.
The finished bathroom feels brand new — bright, spacious, and calm. The natural tones of the tile and flooring work beautifully with the brushed nickel finishes, and the full-height shower brings a sense of luxury and openness that the old bathtub couldn’t.
It’s not just a cosmetic transformation; it’s a functional one. The updated plumbing, waterproof flooring, and modern materials mean this bathroom will stay in great shape for years to come.
